To beat three-of-a-kind you’re going to need at least a straight. A straight is five consecutive cards where at least one of them is a different suit from the others. There are few hands that can beat a flush — one that does is a full house. Also called a “boat,” a full house is when your five-card hand is made up of three of a kind plus a pair.
